There are some basic types of housing: detached houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses and flats. The most popular type of home in England is a semi-detached house, while in Belarus most people live in detached houses and flats. In my opinion, homes and flats reflect the way of life and habits of their owners. We have a niceflat in a new block of flats / a nice house. It has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot running water. There are three bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom in our flat/house. I have a room for yourself. My room is not large but very cosy. It has a bed, a carpet, a computer desk and an armchair before it. My room is very important for me because it’s my private place where I can do everything I want.

Yes, there are the same types of houses in Belarus, but in Belarus most people live in detached houses and flats

- How many rooms are there in your new house/flat?

- Is it far from our school?

- How much time will it take you to get to my school?

Your friend wants to decorate his/ her room to make it look modern. Give him/ her some advice on how to do it.

You should surf the Internet to choose a design. If you choose a certain style then it will be easy to decide about the furniture. I wouldn’t recommend to overcrowd the room with the furniture. There should be everything that is necessary.

They say that living in the city is better than living in the country. What do you think about it?

As for me, I prefer to live in a big city because there are a lot of big shops, clubs, hospitals, schools there. Life in a big city is full of opportunities of getting good education, a well-paid job and entertainments. But I also like to spend my holidays in the country because the ecological conditions there are very good.

Modern life makes a person broaden his horizons, use modern technologies and learn foreign languages. To get knowledge people need education, they need to turn theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Nowadays we can get education at schools, gymnasiums colleges, academies and universities. The system of education of the Republic of Belarus includes different types of educational establishments which develop a child’s personality and talents. School education in Belarus consists of primary and secondary school. In primary school children learn such basic skills as writing, reading, counting, get some information about nature and society. At secondary school students study such subjects as the Belarusian and Russian languages and literatures, a Foreign Language, History of Belarus and the World’s History, Man and Society, Mathematics, Information Technologies, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, music, fine arts, physical training and labor education. Upon completion of grade 9 students have to pass the examinations to receive the certificate of basic education. At the end of grade 11 students sit the final examination and if successful receive the certificate of (complete) general secondary education

Does higher education help people succeed in life?

I absolutely agree that higher education gives a good start in life. The main task of university is to develop a child’s personality and talents. Our teachers always give us much knowledge and show how to learn difficult things but our achievements depend on our hard work.

I was born in Belarus. Belarus is situated in the centre of Europe and is bordered on Russia, Poland, the Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania. Belarus is a presidential republic with the Constitution adopted in 1994. The population is about 10 million people. The symbols of Belarus are its national flag, national emblem and anthem. The climate of the country is moderately continental. Belarus is a country of vast plains, hills, big forests, rivers and lakes. It’s worth visiting because of monuments, museums, ancient towns and beautiful nature.

Belarus has a long history. According to the documents its history started in the 10^th century. Now Belarus is a country of developed industry, education and culture and produces tractors, fridges, TV sets, watches and bicycles.

1. Let`s talk about Britain. What do you know abut this country?

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and a great number of small islands. The UK consists of four parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The British Isles are separated from the European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel. The northern and western parts of the country is mountainous and is called the Highlands. All the rest is a vast plain which is called the Lowlands.

Most of the rivers flow into the North Sea. The Thames is the deepest and the longest of the British rivers.

Great Britain is a highly industrialized country. The main industrial centres are London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and Bristol.

The population of the United Kingdom is over 58 million people.

The capital of the country is London. The United Kingdom is parliamentary monarchy and the Queen is the head of the state.

It goes without saying that art is a great power. To my mind, art plays a great role in the development of the spiritual world of every human being. Art helps to see things from another point of view and develops a good taste. The most popular types of art are cinema, theater, literature, music and painting. As for me, my favourite type of art is music. I love all genres of music, be it jazz, classical, pop, rock, opera or else. Music can change my mood. If I’m sad I try to listen to something cheerful, for example, to disco music. If I want to think in loneliness, I prefer alternative rock. I’m glad that there are so many devices nowadays which allow us to listen to music everywhere we wish.

As for my country, Belarus is famous for its painters. Ossip Zadkine, Kazimir Malevich and Ivan Khrutsky are famous Belarusian painters, but the most famous is Marc Chagal. He was born in a poor family in Vitebsk. He painted his pictures in Paris and developed his own unique style of art. Chagal mixed strong and bright colours with fantasy and religion, Chagall’s works are in the biggest art galleries of the world.

Family plays an important role in my life, because it gives me a sense of stability and support. You feel secure when there’s a family behind you. They are people who share your joys and sorrows and you can trust and rely on them. In happy families parents are honest with their children, they treat their children with respect.

My home is the best place in the world for me because in my family I can speak freely about my problems and I always can get support and understanding from my family. My family consists of __ people: my mum, my dad _____________. My mum is a профессия. She is kind and patient and has a lot of household chores so I always help her. My dad is a a профессия . I respect my father because he is hardworking, strong and honest. Also I have many relatives: grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. 

I have a closer relationship with my parents. We understand each other better and can spend hours talking about our family problems, news and so on. I’d like to become more independent from my parents in future, nevertheless we’ll always be the best friends because my parents are the most important people in the world.
