Pre-learning: Vocabulary match (P, G, W)

· Learners are asked to remember as many types of TV programs as possible; they may do a mind map in their copybooks or write them on the board. They are also encouraged to give examples of Kazakhstan and other countries’ programs. Learners see the topic of today’s class and lesson objectives:

Today you will:

• Learn types of TV programs;

• Listen to the talk about Reality TV shows;

• Do comprehension tasks on listening;

• Write an advert for a reality TV show;

· Later, learners are given cut cards with the type of the TV programme and their definitions (less able learners are given cards with translations), they need to match them and discuss in pairs\groups how they guessed. They try to describe each type of the programs in their own words.

Pair discussion: TV programs (P, G)

Learners discuss the questions on the active board; teacher may assist less able learners. The main task here is to focus learners’ attention on reality TV shows.
