Your close friend is hesitating whether to move to Minsk or stay in Malorita. She (he) asks you for advice. What would you say?

I think I’ll give the following advice:

· Oh, it’s a good idea! Don’t hesitate! I think the city life is up to you because you are very sociable and like active and challenging life.

· Go ahead!

5. Where would you prefer to live in the city or in the country?

I would prefer to live in the city because I am keen on visiting, cinemas, concerts, clubs and I don’t mind noise and traffic jams.

(I would prefer to live in the country because I enjoy the peace and fresh air of the countryside and the air in the countryside is very clean and there are no noisy crowds, so living in the country can be useful for your health).

Let’s talk about education.

1. Let's talk about Belarusian system of education. At what age do Belarusian schoolchildren start and finish school? How long does a school year last? Do you take any exams?

OK, ..., let's talk about Belarusian system of education. Belarusian schoolchildren start school at the age of 6 and finish it at the age of 17.

The school year lasts for 9 months: from the 1st of September till the 31st of May. The schoolchildren take exams after the 9th and the 11th forms.

And I’d like to say a few words about my studies at school.

So, my name is ... and I’m a pupil of the 11th form of Malorita gymnasia. The gymnasia is a three-storied building – big, comfortable and quite modern.

On the ground floor there are several classrooms for junior pupils, workshops, a cloakroom, a canteen, a library and a headmaster’s office.

On the first and second floors there are classrooms for senior pupils, a teacher’s room and a gymnasium.

I go (went) to school five (six) days a week. Classes start at 8 o'clock in the morning and last till 2-3 p.m. Usually we have (had) 6 or 7 lessons a day. We study(ied) a lot of different subjects: Russian, Belarusian, English, Russian and Belarusian literatures, History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computer studying, PE etc. I like (d) History, Belarusian and Maths most of all. I usually receive (d) good marks in these subjects.

Do you agree that schoolchildren must wear a school uniform? Why?

No, I can’t say that I fully agree that schoolchildren must wear a school uniform. In my opinion they must keep to a formal style in clothes.

Imagine you are talking to your peer from England about schooling. What questions would you ask him/her?

I think I’ll ask him the following questions:

1. At what age do English schoolchildren start and finish school?

2. How long does a school year last?

3. Do you take any exams?

Your friend doesn't know what to do after finishing school. Give some advice.

I think I'll give her the following advice:

· Ask your parents’ advice!

· Think what you are interested in and what you are good at!

What is your idea of an ideal school?

No uniform, interesting lessons, tasty food and good teachers. This is an ideal school for me.

Let’s talk about the environment.

Let's talk about environmental problems. Has Belarus suffered from any catastrophe?

OK, ..., let's talk about environmental problems.

So, you know, nowadays there are a lot of factories, atomic stations, big ships and cars that pollute the environment. I mean they pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink and the soil where we grow our food.

As for Belarus it suffered a lot in April 1986 when the Chernobyl tragedy happened.

There was an explosion at the atomic station. As a result about 18 per cent of the territory of Belarus was polluted with radioactive substances.

Do you agree that air pollution is a cause of people's health problems? Why?

Yes, I agree that air pollution is a cause of people's health problems because with the air harmful substances get into our lungs, then into our blood and so on and so force...

Imagine you are interviewing an animal protection activist. What questions would you ask him/ her?

I think I’ll ask him the following questions.

1. The first q-n:      Do you love animals?

2. The second q-n:  Have you got a pet?

3. The third q-n:     How many animals have you saved?
