Ostrava

Ostrava is the third biggest city of the Czech Republic. It is located in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic.

The Moravian-Silesian region is located in the easternmost part of the Czech Republic. It is about 400 km eastwards from Prague. By converting this figure to transportation time, it is only 1 hour by air, 3 hours by railway and 4 hours by car. If we perceive the region supra-regionally, it is positioned most conveniently on the borderline of three countries almost in the centre of Europe.

 

Our region is situated between the Austrian Vienna, Polish Upper Silesian agglomeration and Bratislava in Slovakia. The strength of this position throughout the region is further emphasized by the regional participants trying to link some of the activities of Moravian-Silesian region, Žilina Autonomous Region and Województwo Śląskie in certain activities with the prospect of creating significant territorial centres in the European perspective.

Foreign Employment

Each foreign visitor or employee is requested to provide either their ID Card or passport during inspection at the public transport, dealings with the authorities, etc. Each foreign citizen of OKIN BPS outside of EU countries, has to be a holder of valid Employee Card (work permit and long-term residency in the Czech Republic). 

 

The foreign citizen candidates put the application for the Employee Card at the Czech Embassy in their home country.

 

The Employee Card is prolonged via the Ministry of the Interior in the Czech Republic.

Transportation in Ostrava

In the area of Ostrava, you may use 3 types of UMT (Urban Mass Transportation): buses, trams and trolleybuses. For longer trips or greater distances, you may also use coaches, but trains are recommended.

 

Public Transport in Ostrava

Public transport in Ostrava is part of an integrated transport system ODIS.

 

The fares of the Dopravní podnik Ostrava a.s. (Ostrava Transport, joint-stock co.) are a combination of zone and time-based rates, and transfers are possible. Zone limitations apply to long-term time tickets; time limitations apply to short-term tickets within the TOWN tariff area (zones 1, 2, 3 and 4) and the XXL tariff area (zones 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25).

 

Tickets may be bought in every kiosk or in a ticket machine (usually in yellow colour). You may also buy them from a bus or tram driver, but at applies higher price. Please validate your ticket using the electronic machines located at each door-way immediately after boarding the public transport vehicle! The ticket is valid for the period corresponding to the ticket type and price. Please report any errors in ticket validation to the driver without any hesitation.

 

There are three main types of tickets: single tickets, season tickets and monthly tickets.

 

These are the types of tickets for adults which you can buy either at a kiosk, in a ticket vending machine or by SMS:

· a 10-minute ticket = 14 CZK,

· a 30-minute ticket = 20 CZK, during the weekend and bank holidays the ticket is valid 40 minutes,

· a 60-minute ticket = 26 CZK, during the weekend and bank holidays the ticket is valid 90 minutes,

· a 70-minute text message ticket (SMS) = 27 CZK, during the weekend and bank holidays the ticket is valid 90 minutes,

· a 24-hour ticket = 80 CZK, during the weekend and bank holidays and during summer holidays (1st July – 31st August) the ticket is for 5 passengers (max. 2 adults and 3 children under 15 years of age).


Passengers are obliged to provide a valid travel document (ticket, season ticket, sms) to authorized ticket inspection personnel. Passengers who fail to do so shall be obliged to pay the respective fare and a surcharge of up to 1 500 CZK (stated above the bullet points already).

 

From 8.00 p.m. to 4.00 a.m, please board buses and trolley buses through the front door only. Once on board, validate your ticket in the electronic machine or show your season ticket to the driver IMMEDIATELY.

o Entitlement to a 15% discount of the market rent.

o 1 month´s rent deposit applies for any possible damage.

o No commission is being charged for the employees of OKIN BPS.

o This benefit is applicable to both, new contractor and also to OKIN BPS employees, who are already renting a flat from RPG BYTY, s.r.o. – at market rental price.

Ostrava offers a wide range of restaurants. You can find white-table cloth restaurants, brasserie-type restaurants, pizzerias, sushi, fast food, etc. Whether you would like to enjoy traditional Czech food, regional specialties or international cuisine, Ostrava has everything you are looking for.

The main street for enjoying dinner and having a great time close to Nordica building is the Stodolní Street. It boasts over 70 bars and restaurants in an area covering just a few blocks. Other dining establishments with cuisine from around the world are spread throughout the city. Fast food restaurants are concentrated in the center and in the city shopping malls.

 

Of course, no visit to Ostrava would be complete without a pint of the local beer, “Ostravar” and other brands.

Ostrava is the shopping centre of the region. You can find here small specialized shops, supermarkets and shopping malls. Small markets with fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers are located here as well.

 

In Ostrava you can also find the largest bookshop in the whole country. The bookstore is spread over 4 floors, covering 3 000 sq. m, with Czech, foreign, classical, and specialized literature, as well as magazines and journals, postcards, calendars and textbooks (http://www.knihcentrum-ostrava.cz/).

Karolina is the newest shopping centre including a cinema, cafés etc. It is the most modern shopping and entertaintment centre in the Czech Republic.

Health and Social Care

As an emlpoyee of a Czech company you are registered at local insurance companies. The employees of OKIN BPS division are registered at Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna (VZP). This insurance covers the primary health care.

 

Please check with your local authority the legal requirements in your country.

 

Foreign employees can make registration at a General Practitioner MUDr. Jiří Henzl. His office is placed on Bieblova St. No. 2, in Ostrava, phone contact: +420 596 623 462 or General Practitioner MUDr. René Ehl. His office is placed on Lechowiczova street No. 2, in Ostrava, phone contact: +420 596 611 667.

 

Medicine prescribed by a doctor is to be collected at the pharmacy. The basic prescription fee amounting to 30 CZK per prescription is paid by the patient. Patients contribute a certain percentage of the fee, depending on the medication prescribed.

Social Security

Every employee is, once joining OKIN BPS, registered at the Social welfare and will receive EČP (Evidenční číslo pojištěnce). This is a number that is unique to every single person and refers to your ID number in the social security.

 

This is a compulsory fund that serves its purpose for providing you with payments during the employee´s illness, a female employee maternity leave / male employee parental leave as well as unemployment benefits. and the pension contribution and other.

Income Tax

15 % income tax is being deducted from the monthly salary up to 100 TCZK gross, 15 % + 7% income tax is being deducted from the monthly salary which exceed 100 TCZK gross and are paid to the Czech Revenue office.

 

Various discounts and/or bonuses may apply according to your status (student, single, married, married with children, resident, non-resident….).

 

The income tax is automatically deducted from your salary by the payroll.

Post Office Services

Czech Post is a provider of quality services in the area of mediating information, payments and goods via both traditional and electronic means.

The Czech POINT scheme simplifies dealing with authorities by issuing certified extracts from public administration information systems.

 

Authentication services are easily available at all post offices with a Czech POINT outlet, it is not necessary to visit any authority or notary. You can also get copies of original documents there.

 

The nearest post office closed to Nordica building is located at 1368/20 Poštovní, Ostrava, is opened daily from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. during working days and from 8.00 a.m. till 12.00 a.m. on Saturday. GPS 49°50'16.584"N, 18°17'21.002"E.
