ПОЯСНИТЕЛЬНАЯ ЗАПИСКА

Рабочая тетрадь по организации внеаудиторной самостоятельной работы разработана с целью оказания помощи студентам при освоении дисциплины «Иностранный язык», предусмотренной Федеральным государственным образовательным стандартом по специальностям 38.02.06 «Финансы», 38.02.01 «Экономика и бухгалтерский учет (по отраслям)», 38.02.03 «Операционная деятельность в логистике», 38.02.02 «Страховое дело (по отраслям)», 21.02.06. «Информационные системы обеспечения градостроительной деятельности», 21.02.05 «Земельно-имущественные отношения», 46.02.01 «Документационное обеспечение управления и архивоведение».

Самостоятельная работа является важной составляющей в изучении учебной дисциплины «Иностранный язык».

Целью рабочей тетради по организации внеаудиторной самостоятельной работы является повышение эффективности учебного процесса, в том числе благодаря самостоятельной работе, в которой обучающийся становится активным субъектом обучения, что означает:

· способность занимать в обучении активную позицию;

· готовность мобилизовать интеллектуальные и волевые усилия для достижения учебных целей;

· умение проектировать, планировать и прогнозировать учебную деятельность;

· привычку инициировать свою познавательную деятельность на основе внутренней положительной мотивации;

· осознание своих потенциальных учебных возможностей и психологическую готовность составить программу действий по саморазвитию.

Рабочая тетрадь предназначена для самостоятельной работы над закреплением полученных знаний и умений во внеаудиторное время. Настоящая тетрадь составлена на основе рабочих программ учебной дисциплины «Иностранный язык», разделы 1, 2, 3.

Внеаудиторная самостоятельная работа по дисциплине «Иностранный язык» выполняется обучающимся по заданию преподавателя, но без его непосредственного участия. Проверка выполнения заданий в Рабочей тетради осуществляются преподавателем по мере изучения тем. Результаты выполнения обучающимися самостоятельной работы оцениваются преподавателем и регистрируются в специальном журнале.

My Family

We are a large and a friendly family. There are four of us: father, mother, my younger sister and me. I also have a cousin sister, but she doesn’t live with us.

My father’s name is Peter, he is forty. He is a doctor. He works at a large hospital. He isn’t tall, but he is well-built. He has blue eyes and curly fair hair. My father has a car. In the morning, he drives mother to work, then he goes to his hospital. He likes reading books and listening to music in his free time.

My mother’s name is Kate. She is thirty-eight years old and her job is economist. She works in a bank. She is a beautiful woman. She has dark hair and brown eyes. My mother keeps the house. Of course, we help her about the house: all of us do our share in daily household duties. My sister washes the dishes and the floor. I wash the sink in the kitchen. Mother and father do most of the shopping. My mother likes watching TV in her free time.

My sister’s name is Lucy. She is sixteen and she is beautiful your lady. She has long fair hair and blue eyes. She is senior former, so naturally school takes up a lot of her time. She spends most of the afternoons and evenings doing her homework. As for her hobby, she likes sport and popular music.

At the weekend, we are not busy as on week days, and we can relax: visit or receive friends or just go for a walk. I also enjoy quiet Saturday evenings, when all the members of our friendly family are at home and nobody is in a hurry.

My Working Day

On weekdays, the alarm-clock wakes me up at 6.30 and my working day begins. I switch on my tape-recorder and do my morning exercises. Then I go to the bathroom, take a warm shower, clean my teeth and shave. After that I go to my bedroom to get dressed. Usually my mother makes breakfast for me. But when she is away on business or just doesn't have to get up early, I make breakfast myself. While having breakfast, I listen to the latest news on the radio.

I leave the house at 7.30 and go to the nearest underground station. It takes me an hour and a half to get to work. I usually arrive at work at ten minutes to nine though my working day begins at 9 sharp. There are always some fax messages to translate from English into Russian. Sometimes my boss wants me to write a letter to our business partners abroad. There are also a lot of phone calls which I have to answer.

At 1 o'clock in the afternoon we have lunch. We usually have lunch in a small cafe just round the corner. At 2 o'clock we come back to work. And we work hard till 5 o'clock. During the working day, we also have several short coffee breaks. But sometimes we have no time for them. I come home at about 7 o'clock in the evening. My parents are usually at home, waiting for me. We have dinner together. Then we sit in the living room, drink tea, watch TV or just talk.

Occasionally I have to stay at work till 6 or even 7 o'clock in the evening. When we have a lot of things to do we go to work on Saturdays. So, by the end of the week I get very tired. All I can do on Sundays is to sleep till eleven o'clock, watch television, listen to music and read something in English. And still I always look forward to my next working day because I like my job. I think I get a lot of useful experience.

Keeping Fit

Most people are very busy today. People work a lot, have stress, different problems, and etc. That’s why it is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle and find time to relax. (1) People lead a healthy lifestyle in different ways.

First of all, it is necessary to do exercise to stay healthy. People of different age can design exercises that will fit them. The most popular exercises are: running, jumping, swimming, and stretching. (2) Many people prefer jogging, because it is cheap. Walking also is a popular activity, too. To keep fit people also do aerobics or yoga. (3)

Healthy food is also very important part of healthy lifestyle. We need to eat salads with fresh vegetables, drink juice and mineral water, eat fish and dairy products. But today food from MacDonald’s is very popular. Fast food is very harmful for us, because it causes a lot of bad diseases and overweight. (4)

As for me, I also try to keep to a healthy way of life. I get up early, do exercises and ride a bicycle in summer. I like swimming in the pool. In summer, my family and I go to the seaside or to the river. As for food, I try to keep on a diet and eat food and vegetables. (5) I don’t go to the fast-food cafes very often and try not to eat junk food: hamburgers, chips, pizzas.

I advise you to keep fit. There are a lot of ways of leading a healthy lifestyle: doing exercises, going in for sport, walking in the fresh air, eating the right food, and etc. (6) As the proverb says, “A healthy mind in a healthy body”. (7)

Shopping

  One day my friend Nick and I decided to go shopping. I took my salary and Nick took his father's salary. Nick needed some new clothes badly. There are a lot of shops, supermarkets and department stores in the centre of the city, so we decided to go through some of them.

       The first shop on our way was a large supermarket. The choice of goods was very impressive. It seemed to us that on the counters and shelves there was everything one could want. We could see sausages of different kinds, fish, meat, poultry. At the bakery there was bread, rolls, biscuits. At the dairy department there was milk, cream, cheese, butter. Everything was nicely packed and when we came to the cashier our baskets were full.

       Then we went to the department store which was right across the street. Nick and I are fond of computers and video and hi-fi equipment, so we couldn't go past our favourite department. There were a lot of computers, video cassette recorders, TV sets, hi-fi centres and tape recorders. Nick bought three new CDs and I bought two video cassettes.

       And then, at last, we found the men's clothing department. There were a lot of suits, trousers, jackets, shirts and many other things. Nick needed a suit because he was going to the theatre with his girlfriend and her parents to see Pygmalion. As you probably remember, Nick is very tall and slim. So, it's always difficult to find clothes that would suit him perfectly.

       The shop assistant asked Nick's size and offered him a nice suit. But when Nick tried it on I couldn't help laughing. The jacket was too big for him and the trousers were too short. He looked so funny! The shop assistant thought for a moment and then suggested that Nick should try on some jackets and some trousers separately. An hour later Nick looked like an English gentleman.

We had to go home by taxi because our bags were so huge that we could hardly lift them. We came home completely broke but happy.

My Day Off

Most people in our country work five days a week but students and pupils have always worked six days a week. I am always looking forward to Sundays because it is my day off. It’s nice to think that there are no lessons. I like Sunday very much. You needn’t hurry anywhere and you may go wherever you like after your week’s work.

On this day I wake up later than usual. Usually I spend my Sunday watching TV, reading books, walking, visiting my friends, and so on. I phone my friends and we discuss our plans for the week-end. Sometimes we go to the cinema. We have been to most museums and picture galleries in the city, but there is still a lot to see. Last Sunday, for example, we went to the Botanical Garden. There were a lot of brightly coloured flowers in the open air we saw some rare tropical plants.

When the weather is fine it is good to go to the country. We find a nice place in the forest. We take some food and have a lunch there in the open air. We play different games, swim and lie in the sun. In winter, we go skiing on the hills near the city. We make a snowman and play snowballs.

When the weather is bad, I stay at home and sometimes my friends come to my place. They play computer games, watch TV and listen to music together. Sometimes we have visitors or go for a walk.

I enjoy my days off very much. I’m happy to live my busy life day by day enjoying weekends.

Wonderful Winter

I do lots of things in winter. I go to school in the morning. In the evening I stay at home and watch TV or read a book next to a warm fire. When it snows, my friends and I go to the park and make a snowman. At the weekend my family and I go skiing in the mountains.

Winter is a lovely season. It is my favourite season because everything is beautiful when it snows. Winter is fantastic. It makes me feel happy.

The weather is very cold. It often snows and the sky is usually cloudy. Some animals sleep all winter. There are no leaves on the trees and there aren’t any flowers.

The weather is usually warm and sunny in spring. Beautiful flowers grow everywhere and the birds build their nests in the trees. However, the weather changes quickly.   Sometimes grey clouds appear in the sky and it rains, but after the rain, the sky turns blue again.

In spring, I spend a lot of time outdoors. I often ride my bicycle and play with my friends in the park. The countryside is lovely in spring, so my family and I often go on picnics on Sundays.

Education

It is widely known that education helps to form the personality and prepares one for life. That is why all countries consider the system of education a very important part of national politics. Schoolchildren often complain that school is boring and a waste of time. I think, the most part of the things we learn at school are useful to us in many ways.

Firstly, school gives children general knowledge which helps them in their everyday life. My own experience shows that knowledge of subjects such as Geography and History, for example, helps to understand what is happening in the world around us. Without this knowledge, we can’t understand daily TV and newspaper reports, or watch TV documentaries and travelogues.

Moreover, some school subjects help people develop an interest in hobbies. As for me, I like to spend my free time surfing the Internet. Computer Studies at school helps me to do it.

On the other hand, there are some useless subjects at school. I don’t like Algebra, for example, and I don’t understand how to memorize formulas.

To sum up, I believe that, it is wrong to say that we shouldn’t study subjects. All subjects are necessary and important. They give us a very deep knowledge for our understanding of the world.

Life in the Society

It’s impossible nowadays to imagine a person living totally isolated. Since early times people have realized that it’s much safer and easier to live in groups or communities sharing common interests, traditions, ways of life. A diverse world is around us nowadays. Both an individual and society influence each other. And the more democratic a society is the more guaranteed the rights and freedoms of a person are. But I think there are a lot of different problems in modern society.

First of all, living in countries with different social systems, different political and economic situations people are facing different but often similar problems. And it’s obvious that to solve these problems people should conduct a discussion, to set the conflict on a compromise and to make collective decisions. One of the ways to solution of these problems is to understand man’s place in a society, to see the existence of different opinions, tasks, to try to share your personal views and ideas on the whole society and understand other people.

Moreover, social problems are problems which concern not only society as a whole but also each of us individually. It has been possible for a man to succeed in landing on the moon and yet he has failed to solve the problems of poverty, hunger, unemployment, racism, terrorism etc.

All in all, I think everyone is greatly influenced by the society he lives in: at the same time, the individual person can play a responsible part in the creation and the development of that society. Everyone today belongs to one or more of these kinds of society. Certainly, no individual can ever be totally independent of other people.

Choosing a Career

Sooner or later all of us face the problem of choosing a career when we are to decide what we are going to be in future. Choosing a career is not simple. In fact, it can be one of the most important things in our life. You don't need to hurry making a decision. You should examine your abilities and character, take a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses, pay attention to your parents' and friends' advice. Think about your preferences. Sometimes people simply follow in the footsteps of their parents or relatives or just follow their advice. Your choice should be mostly based on your own opinion. Nowadays there is a great variety of jobs. Choosing a future career, we should discuss the following things.

Payment. Is the size of your salary important? Generally speaking, it is important. Naturally, you'd like to live in good conditions, and your children to study at good schools, and then to enter prestigious universities, to travel all around the world and so on.

Place of work. You should decide whether you want to work in a building (cashier, chemist, librarian, secretary, etc.) or out of building (driver, firefighter, estate agent, etc.).

• Communication with different people. Meeting with people doesn't suitable to every person. Some people are not very sociable; on the contrary. Frankly speaking, it is a great talent to have communication skills. If you think you have it, you may choose a profession involving close contacts with people, such as a doctor, a journalist, a lawyer, a guide, a teacher.

Analyzing all these points will help you not to make a wrong choice. Choosing a career should not only be a matter of future prestige and wealth. Work should bring real satisfaction; otherwise your whole life will become and monotonous.

Travelling

Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays travelling. They travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy picturesque places, or just for a change of scene. It's always interesting to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen to different musical rhythms.

Those who live in the country like to go to a big city and spend their time visiting museums and art galleries, looking at shop windows and dining at exotic restaurants. City-dwellers usually like a quiet holiday by the sea or in the mountains, with nothing to do but walk and bathe and laze in the sun.

Most travellers and holiday-makers take a camera with them and take pictures of everything that interests them — the sights of a city, old churches and castles, views of mountains, lakes, valleys, plains, waterfalls, forests; different kinds of trees, flowers and plants, animals and birds.

Later, perhaps years later, they will be reminded by the photos of the happy time they have had.

People travel by train, by plane, by boat and by car.

All means of travel have their advantages and disadvantages. And people choose one according to their plans and destinations.

If we are fond of travelling, we see and learn a lot of things that we can never see or learn at home, though we may read about them in books and newspapers, and see pictures of them on TV. The best way to study geography is to travel, and the best way to get to know and understand people is to meet them in their own homes.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a famous American TV star. She lives in California, but she also has an apartment in Chicago, where she works. Oprah is one of the richest women in America. She earns millions of dollars every year. She gives a lot of money to charity.

Oprah was born on January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her parents were very poor. Her father, Vernon, worked in a coal mine and her mother, Vernita, cleaned houses. They couldn’t look after Oprah, she lived with her grandmother, Hattie Mae. Oprah was clever. She could read before she was three. When she was 17, she received a scholarship to Tennessee State University, where she studied drama. She also started reading the news at the local radio station.

In 1984, Oprah moved to Chicago to work on a TV talk show called A.M. Chicago. She spoke to a lot of interesting people about their problems. Oprah says, “People’s problems are my problems”. The show was very successful, so in 1985, it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show. 49 million people in 134 countries watched it very week. In 1993, she interviewed Michael Jackson and 100 million people watched the program. Last year, she earned $260,000,000.

In 1998, Oprah started the charity Oprah’s Angel Network to help poor children all over the world. In 2007, she opened a special school in Johannesburg, the Oprah Winfrey Academy for Girls. There are 152 girls at the school, Oprah calls them her daughters – the children she didn’t have in real life.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. There are varied countryside where you can find mountains, plains, valleys and sandy beaches. Ben Nevis in Scotland is the highest mountain, but it is only 1343 meters high. There are a lot of rivers in Great Britain, but they are not very long. The Severn is the longest river, while the Thames is the deepest and the most important one. The mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of Gulf Stream influence the climate of the British Isles. It is mild the whole year round.

The UK is a highly developed industrial country. It is known as one of the world's largest producers and exporters of machinery, electronics, textile, aircraft and navigation equipment. One of the chief industries of the country is shipbuilding.

The UK is a constitutional monarchy. In law, the Head of State is the Queen. In practice, the Queen reigns, but does not rule. The country is ruled by the elected government with the Prime Minister at the head. The British Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. There are three main political parties in Great Britain: the Labour, the Conservative and the Liberal parties.

III. Письмо -извинение

Formal Letter of Apology

Formal Letter of Аpology обычно отправляется в ответ на письмо-жалобу (Letter of Complaint). Цель делового письма-извинения – объяснить причины проблем, указанных в письме-жалобе, а также убедить адресата, что будут предприняты шаги, чтобы устранить проблемы и избежать их повторения в будущем. Желательно предложить компенсацию.

Если от правильности составления личного письма-извинения зависят ваши личные отношения с кем-либо, то деловое письмо-извинение может стать шагом к урегулированию отношений с клиентом / партнером, помочь исправить неприятную ситуацию в бизнесе, сохранить репутацию компании.

ПОЯСНИТЕЛЬНАЯ ЗАПИСКА

Рабочая тетрадь по организации внеаудиторной самостоятельной работы разработана с целью оказания помощи студентам при освоении дисциплины «Иностранный язык», предусмотренной Федеральным государственным образовательным стандартом по специальностям 38.02.06 «Финансы», 38.02.01 «Экономика и бухгалтерский учет (по отраслям)», 38.02.03 «Операционная деятельность в логистике», 38.02.02 «Страховое дело (по отраслям)», 21.02.06. «Информационные системы обеспечения градостроительной деятельности», 21.02.05 «Земельно-имущественные отношения», 46.02.01 «Документационное обеспечение управления и архивоведение».

Самостоятельная работа является важной составляющей в изучении учебной дисциплины «Иностранный язык».

Целью рабочей тетради по организации внеаудиторной самостоятельной работы является повышение эффективности учебного процесса, в том числе благодаря самостоятельной работе, в которой обучающийся становится активным субъектом обучения, что означает:

· способность занимать в обучении активную позицию;

· готовность мобилизовать интеллектуальные и волевые усилия для достижения учебных целей;

· умение проектировать, планировать и прогнозировать учебную деятельность;

· привычку инициировать свою познавательную деятельность на основе внутренней положительной мотивации;

· осознание своих потенциальных учебных возможностей и психологическую готовность составить программу действий по саморазвитию.

Рабочая тетрадь предназначена для самостоятельной работы над закреплением полученных знаний и умений во внеаудиторное время. Настоящая тетрадь составлена на основе рабочих программ учебной дисциплины «Иностранный язык», разделы 1, 2, 3.

Внеаудиторная самостоятельная работа по дисциплине «Иностранный язык» выполняется обучающимся по заданию преподавателя, но без его непосредственного участия. Проверка выполнения заданий в Рабочей тетради осуществляются преподавателем по мере изучения тем. Результаты выполнения обучающимися самостоятельной работы оцениваются преподавателем и регистрируются в специальном журнале.
