Let’s talk about accommodation.

Let’s talk about accommodation.

Let's talk about accommodation. Do you live in a house or in a flat? What is there in your house/flat?

OK, ..., let's talk about accommodation.

There are different types of accommodation: detached houses, semi-detached houses, blocks of flats, cottages.

As for me, I live in a cottage (flat). My house (flat) is not large, but it is very cozy. There are four rooms in it: a living-room and 2 bedrooms. There is a kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet there too. Our living-room is large and comfortable. We have modern furniture in it and a good TV-set. I like to watch TV and play or talk with my parents in the evening in this room.

Our kitchen is small, but it is cozy. There is a cooker, a refrigerator, a table and four chairs. Our bathroom is clean and nice. We wash, clean teeth in the bathroom.

I have my own room too. There is a table with a computer on it, a sofa and a carpet on the floor. I like my house very much. I think there is no place like home.

2. Why do people prefer to live in the city? Are there any disadvantages of living in the city?

Lots of people prefer living in cities rather than in the country because there many advantages of living in the city.

First of all, in the city you can get good education. Of course, it is easier to find work in the city than in the country. Besides, salaries are much higher in the city. And there are better facilities for entertainment and sports there.

But there are some disadvantages of living in the city. I think, living in a city is often very expensive. Public transport is often crowded. There are traffic jams in the rush hour. There is little parking place for cars in the yards and in the streets.

3. What questions would you ask a person who came to Malorita from a big city?

I think I’ll ask him the following questions:

· Are you happy to live in a big city?

· Is the air clean in your city?

· What do you do in your free time!

Your close friend is hesitating whether to move to Minsk or stay in Malorita. She (he) asks you for advice. What would you say?

I think I’ll give the following advice:

· Oh, it’s a good idea! Don’t hesitate! I think the city life is up to you because you are very sociable and like active and challenging life.

· Go ahead!

5. Where would you prefer to live in the city or in the country?

I would prefer to live in the city because I am keen on visiting, cinemas, concerts, clubs and I don’t mind noise and traffic jams.

(I would prefer to live in the country because I enjoy the peace and fresh air of the countryside and the air in the countryside is very clean and there are no noisy crowds, so living in the country can be useful for your health).

Let’s talk about education.

1. Let's talk about Belarusian system of education. At what age do Belarusian schoolchildren start and finish school? How long does a school year last? Do you take any exams?

OK, ..., let's talk about Belarusian system of education. Belarusian schoolchildren start school at the age of 6 and finish it at the age of 17.

The school year lasts for 9 months: from the 1st of September till the 31st of May. The schoolchildren take exams after the 9th and the 11th forms.

And I’d like to say a few words about my studies at school.

So, my name is ... and I’m a pupil of the 11th form of Malorita gymnasia. The gymnasia is a three-storied building – big, comfortable and quite modern.

On the ground floor there are several classrooms for junior pupils, workshops, a cloakroom, a canteen, a library and a headmaster’s office.

On the first and second floors there are classrooms for senior pupils, a teacher’s room and a gymnasium.

I go (went) to school five (six) days a week. Classes start at 8 o'clock in the morning and last till 2-3 p.m. Usually we have (had) 6 or 7 lessons a day. We study(ied) a lot of different subjects: Russian, Belarusian, English, Russian and Belarusian literatures, History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computer studying, PE etc. I like (d) History, Belarusian and Maths most of all. I usually receive (d) good marks in these subjects.

Let's talk about national characters. They say every nation has got its national traits. Germans are considered to be punctual and accurate, Americans are commonly known as active, energetic and practical people. And what about Belarusians? What are our national traits?

OK, ..., let's talk about national characters. I agree that every nation has got its national traits. Germans are considered to be punctual and accurate, Americans are commonly known as active, energetic and practical people.

The English are known to be very conservative: they don’t hurry to change anything in their life – furniture, clothes, habits.

Besides the English are stay-at-home people. They don’t like loud music. They are never messy.

What about Belarusians? We are considered to be modest, tolerant, honest, generous, easy-going, kind-hearted.
