Example: Mrs. Hudson is leaving the courtroom.

Mrs. Hudson is not leaving the courtroom.

1) They are qualified lawyers.

2) Immigration law is representing foreign nationals.

3) The jury is ready to announce the decision.

4) The judges are hearing an appeal by a man convicted of murder.

5) Commercial law is giving legal advice in the field of business.

6) Companies are asking the court to provide some kind of legal remedy (защита прав).

7) Guy Fawkes was guarding the explosives.

8) They were having a rest, while the judge was making his decision.

9) They will be trying to catch the major international drug smugglers and dealers.

10) They were hiding behind a chimney stack on the flat roof of the warehouse.

5. Ask your group mates 5-7 questions about their plans for the weekend. Use Future Continuous or Future Simple.

Example: What will you be doing on Sunday morning?

Will you go to the cinema or you will stay at home?

6. Choose the correct alternative (Present Simple or Present Continuous).

GRAMMAR FOCUS: PARTICIPLES

Participle ( Причастие )

Причастие – это неличная форма глагола, сочетающая в себе свойства глагола, прилагательного и наречия. При переводе на русский язык соответствует причастию и деепричастию.

В английском языке имеется два причастия: Причастие I ( Participle I или Present Participle) – причастие настоящего времени; и Причастие II ( Participle II или Past Participle) – причастие прошедшего времени.

Participle I образуется путем прибавления суффикса – ing к основе глагола. На русский язык переводится причастием настоящего вида или деепричастием.

Learning – изучающий, изучая

Asking – спрашивающий, спрашивая

She looked at the smiling child. – Она посмотрела на улыбающегося ребенка.

Hearing the noise he went to open the door. – Услышав шум, он пошел открыть дверь.

Participle II образуется путем прибавления суффикса – ed к основе правильных глаголов или третья основная форма неправильных глаголов. На русский язык переводится страдательным причастием прошедшего времени.

Discussed – обсужденный

Made – сделанный

The man sentenced to death was pardoned. – Мужчина, приговоренный к смертной казни, был помилован.

The crime committed by the police officer was detected. – Преступление, совершенное офицером полиции, было раскрыто.
