Task 1. Agree or disagree with the following statements.

1. Britain is a parliamentary democracy with a Constitutional monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, as head of State.

2. The Queen is also head of the Commonwealth1, and is head of State in 14 of its 42 member countries.

3. Parliament consists of the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

4. The Queen does not formally summon and dissolve Parliament.

5. The House of Commons, which plays the major part in lawmaking, consists of 650 elected members of Parliament (MPs).

6. Any British subject aged 21 or over, not otherwise disqualified  may be elected a Member of Parliament (M.P.).
