Task 1. Agree or disagree with the following statements.
1. Britain is a parliamentary democracy with a Constitutional monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, as head of State. 2. The Queen is also head of the Commonwealth1, and is head of State in 14 of its 42 member countries. 3. Parliament consists of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. 4. The Queen does not formally summon and dissolve Parliament. 5. The House of Commons, which plays the major part in lawmaking, consists of 650 elected members of Parliament (MPs). 6. Any British subject aged 21 or over, not otherwise disqualified may be elected a Member of Parliament (M.P.). 7. The House of Lords is made up of hereditary and life peers and peeresses. 8.The Queen, Lords and Commons all have not to agree to any new law which is passed. 9.Not only the House of Commons can give permission for the Government to collect taxes. 10. Members of Parliament protect the rights of individual. 11. Britain is divided into 659 areas, known as constituencies. 12. The House of Commons is a Court of Justice.
