Passenger: Here it is.

C.O.: Have you been to New York before?

P.: Yes, several times.

C.O.: How do you like New York?

P.: It's fantastic. And I've seen Washington and Dallas as well. They are impressive places.

C.O.: Were you just sightseeing?

P.: Not exactly. My cooperative has contacts with a New York firm.

C.O. : I suppose you've got many friends in this country.

P.: Of course.

C.O. : May I have a look at your declaration form?

P.: Yes, here you are.

C.O.: Do you have any drugs or appliances for their use?

P.: Certainly not.

C.O. : Then you have to write " No, I haven't". How much foreign currency do you have? You should declare the amount of your currency in figures and words.

P.: I think I've got 2, 000 dollars, if I'm not mistaken.

C.O.: Will you please show me the U.S. dollars you have. I'll count your money.

P.: O'K.

C.O. : So you have 2, 050 dollars all in all. Please declare this amount of currency in figures and words.

P.: Just a moment. Well, I've done it. Am I through?

C.O.: Yes, you can carry on. Sorry to have kept you so long.

P.: It's my fault. Bye-bye.

C.O. : Good-bye.

C.O. : Do you have anything to declare, sir?

P.: Nothing from the first list.

C.O.: Do you have any items above the fixed quota?

P.: Well, I haven't got through the second list, you know. They are both rather long.

C.O.: Will you please open your suitcases, sir?

P.: Yes, of course; here you are.

C.O. : What are these things?

P.: They are for my personal use.

C.O.: You have suits above the fixed quota, sir.

P.: But they are not new.

C.O. : All the same. You will have to pay duty on this extra one.

P.: Well, all right.

С.O.: Now, I see you have books.

P.: Are they prohibited?

C.O.: They'll have to be looked through, sir. Can you put them aside, please?

P. : What? Are you going to read them all?

C.O. : No, our interpreter will just skip through them. That's all. Now, what are these things?

P. : Oh, just a few things for my family. Are they liable to duty too? (Am I liable to pay duty on them too? )

C.O. : No, they are not. Well, the examination is over, sir. You may pay the duty for the suits over there.

P.: Yes, thank you.

C.O.: When you bring the receipt, I'll stamp your documents, sir.
