The year 2015 was the UNESCO International Year of Light and Light based Technologies and we had some fascinating light-themed talks and hands-on activities on offer during the Festival fortnight. Events recreated famous experiments which led to our understanding of light and colour, showing how light technologies are changing our understanding of biological processes and looking in depth at LEDs and the science behind the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics. We acknowledge and thank the University of Cambridge and our sponsors for their support of the Cambridge Science Festival. [30] Cambridge Science Festival 2 Answer the following questions.

Candidate B: Read the following excerpt from the article and comment on the information provided. ‘Science helps satisfy the natural curiosity with which we are all born: why is the sky blue, how did the leopard get its spots, what is a solar eclipse? With science, we can answer such questions without resorting to magical explanations. And science can lead to technological advances, as well as helping us learn about enormously important and useful topics, such as our health, the environment, and natural hazards. Without science, the modern world would not be modern at all, and we still have much to learn. Millions of scientists all over the world are working to solve different parts of the puzzle of how the universe works, peering into its nooks and crannies, deploying their microscopes, telescopes, and other tools to unravel its secrets’.
