ELECTRIC CIRCUIT

The purpose of the electrical source is to produce the necessary electromotive force required for the flow of current through the circuit.

The path along which the electrons travel must be complete otherwise no electric power can be supplied from the source to the load. Thus we close the circuit when we switch on our electric lamp.

If the circuit is broken or, as we generally say " opened" anywhere, the current is known to stop everywhere. We break the circuit when we switch off our electrical devices. Generally speaking, the current may pass through solid conductors, liquids, gases, vacuum, or any combination of these. It may flow in turn over transmission lines from the power-stations through transformers, cables and switches, through lamps, heaters, motors and so on.

There are various kinds of electric circuits such as: open circuits, closed circuits, series circuits, parallel circuits and short circuits.

Nuclear Power Plants

The energy for operating a nuclear power plant comes from the heat released during the fissioning of uranium or plutonium atoms is a nuclear reactor. This fission heat is used to generate steam, which drives a turbine generator. Thus, they are two main differences between a nuclear power plant and a stream-electric power plant: The nuclear power plant uses a nuclear fuel instead a fossil fuel, and it uses a reactor instead of a boiler.

The fissioning uranium-235 or plutonium-239 atoms – atoms the primary nuclear fuels – is caused by the impacts of neutrons of these atoms. The fissioning process not only produced heat but also several additional neutrons that can cause fissioning of other uranium-235 or plutonium-239 atoms. Thus, by proper arrangement of the atoms of the fuel, a sustained chain reaction can be maintained to provide a steady source for heat for operating a power plant. This chain reaction is controlled by regulating the number and the energy of the neutrons as they procced from one fission reaction to another.

There are various types of nuclear reactors. The major differences between them are the form of the fuel, the methods for controlling the number and energy of the neutrons, and the type of liquid or gas used to remove the heat from the reactor core.

1. What does the energy come from?

2. What are the major differences between nuclear reactors?

Ex.7. Read the text and entitle it:

It is well known that the quick development of electronics began with the invention of transistors. They replaced electronic tubes due to their numerous advantages. One of the main advantages of the transistors in comparison with the vacuum tube is absence of filament power loss. One of the principal causes of damages in electronic circuitry is high temperature. The heat causes breakdown of tubes and other circuit elements that are very sensitive to this influence. The transistor, on the other hand, does not heat its surroundings.

Another advantage of the transistor is its long life. The life of the average transistor is more than ten thousand operating hours. Because of its long lifetime and ruggedness, the transistor is very reliable and has much better efficiency in professional equipment.

Before your appliance is connected to the main electricity supply, check to ensure that the voltage and the frequency shown in the data plate correspond with your power supply. The data plate is situated on the back cover of the oven, or it is situated in the front of the storage compartment and can be seen by opening the storage compartment cover or pulling the drawer.

Warning!

This appliance must be earthed. Our company shall not hold responsible for any damage caused by the utilization of the oven without ground socket. Before applying to Authorized service, have the electrical wiring of your home ready for connection. If the appliance is connected by a plug, that plug is easily accessible after installation (but not above the hob). This product must only be installed by a qualified electrician, e.g. local electricity company to a suitable double pole control unit with a minimum contact clearance of 3 mm in all poles which should be adjacent to (but not above) the cooker in accordance with IEE regulation. Failure to observe this instruction may result in operational problems and invalidation of the product warranty. If the appliance is connected by a plug, that plug is easily accessible after installation (but not above the hob). The cable length should be 2 mt max for isolation safety.

In models with «covered type- terminal block».

In mix models a cable supplied with a plug with your oven (H05 VV-F 3G 1.5 mm2).

If a cable without a plug is provided together with your oven (H05 V V-F 3G 2, 5 mm2) take care to connect as below:

Brown cable = L (Live)

Blue cable = N (Neutral)

Green/Yellow cable = E (Earth).

If your oven is supplied without a supply cord use schema-l to choose a supply cord and use schema-II for installation of a cord. The cable length should be max 2m long for isolation safety. Open the terminal block cover. Connect the supply cable according to wiring diagram on the rear cover. Fix the supply cable to main body with integrated screw via cable tightener. Assembly the terminal blocks cover to its place. Your oven is suitable for single and three phase connection. The main cable must pass through the cable clamp. The main cable should be routed away from the appliance and in particular ventilation slots, the vent outlet and should not be obstructed when pushed in to position between the appliance and the wall and/or cabinet.

Throughout the years, accidents causing a release of radioactive material to the environment have occurred. Since World War II all over the world large scale nuclear facilities have been built and operated both for civil and defense purposes. Some of the sites on which these facilities were located re heavily contaminated with radioactive substances.

One the first nuclear reactor accidents of environmental concern was the Windscale accident in October 1957. Gold

Gold, a precious metal, is prized for two important characteristics. First of all, gold has a lustrous beauty that is resistant to corrosion. Therefore, it is suitable for jewelry, coins, and ornamental purposes. Gold never needs to be polished and will remain beautiful forever. For example, a Macedonian coin remains as untarnished today as the day it was minted twenty-three centuries ago. Another important characteristic of gold is its usefulness to industry and science. For many years, it has been used in hundreds of industrial applications.

The most recent use of gold is astronauts' suits. Astronauts wear gold-plated heat shields for protection outside the spaceship. In conclusion, gold is treasured not only for its beauty but also for its utility.
