Title – is the only part of an article which will be read without fail. It is obvious that the title will be read by the most number of readers, and exactly saying by all those who will look through the content of this issue of the journal, and also those who find your article when searching.

Probably, thous and sof people will look through the title and only units of them will read all the entire article. The title’s function–is to attractas many as possible readers interested in reading of the article.

In order to attract an attention of just those whom the article will be interesting for, the title should be as exact as possible and corresponds completely to the article’s content. Just that is why to take words for the title it is necessary to do it with great thoroughness, especially taking into account their information completeness, importance and compatibility.

If the title will not reflect the content of the article appropriately, then it is possible that the article will never be read by those specialists which it was intended for. Experienced authors write the title and abstract of the article only after it is already written.

Before starting the text writing, it is worth to think, which audience the article is intended for, in order to decide, definitions of which terms, objects and methods should be given, and what can be omitted, supposing that it is well known to specialists working in this field.

The title of the article should not be very long or very short and should contain not less than 3 and no more than 15 words (not considering prepositions).

For example, an article with title “Studies of Brucella” wassubmittedtothejournalJournal of Bacteriology. It is obvious that such a title will do little to a potential reader to understand what this article is about.

What is the character of investigation? Was it connected with taxonomy, genetics, biochemistry or medicine? Nowadays such short titles are very seldom.

It is considerably often that for publication there represented articles which have too long headings. About a century ago, when the science was considerably less specialized, the headings were noticeably long and less specific.

An example of long heading: “On the addition to the method of microscopic research by a new way of producing color-contrast between an object and its background or between definite parts of the object itself”’(Rheinberg, J.R. Microsc. Soc. 1896:373).

Nowadays the titles’ headings are too long because of presence of waste words. These words are called waste because they do not carry any information. It is very often when such words are in the beginning of the title. They are the following:

Indefinite articles “A” and “An” in the beginning of the heading are also related to waste words.

Now we can conclude and give a definition: The title of an article – is a combination of the least number of words which correctly describes the content of the article.

The main features of a good title of an article are: I 1. It consists of not less than 3 and no more than 15 words and is specific to content of the article. I 2. It does not contain waste words.

Usually the title of the article represents a label, and not the full sentence, consisting of object, predicate and etc. A few journals permit using the full or question.

Recently, titles representing full sentences and also questions are often. If you are going to use the full sentence as a title, then before spending a lot of time for its formulation, see if there are a few articles with such titles in the journal which you chose for publication.

Importance and order of words in the heading are important not only for readers, which see the heading in the content of the regular issue of the journal, but also for those who get known about the article from the secondary bibliographic sources, such as abstract journals (Biological Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Index Medicus).

The most part of the modern computerized bibliographic systems of referencing use key words (KWIC – key words in context или KWOC – key words out of context). That is why it is not bad if an author will use such key words directly in the title of the article.

In this case, your article is more likely to get in the eyes of potential interested reader, which is especially important for young researchers who put their first articles in the less popular journals. Although the title is often formulated finally after that when your article has been already written, and it is practically always edited after notes of reviewers and editors, however, before starting the writing of the article it is worth to make its work title.
